The cow says...

We have been trying to teach Trey animal sounds for the past few weeks. He has always been pretty good at imitating the dog sound. Today, for the first time, when asked "What does the cow say?", Trey responded "Mooooo!" Needless to say, Mommy and Daddy were quite proud. Ah, the simple joys of parenthood.

Stepping Up

Trey has become a great little walker. He walks so well now that he practically runs everywhere, and he definitely prefers walking to running at this point. Now that we think we have probably seen our last cold front, Trey is enjoying roaming around in his cute little shorts and sneakers. He is all boy.

Lately he is learning how to step up and down between different levels. Those of you who have seen our home know that our den area is a step below the rest of the house. Because that's where we spend most of our time, Trey spends a lot of time going up from the den to the kitchen, sunroom, living room, etc., and back down. Usually he has to drop down and crawl to go between levels, but lately he has been trying to walk up and down. He has to hold onto the wall or door to do so, but he has figured out that it's possible to stay upright through this process.

It's fun to watch him learn how to be more mobile. He is really having a great time roaming around on two feet.

Weaned

It seems Trey is successfully weaned... Mommy is about 90% sure, at least. While we went through our weaning pains a few weeks ago, Trey now seems completely content with regular milk, and in a sippy cup at that!

I realize I've neglected you blog readers for the past week and more... so here are the headlines of recent days.

Trey enjoyed a fun afternoon at the Children's Museum last Sunday with Mommy and Mama C. The new Tot Spot opened at the museum, and yes, we were crazy enough to go on opening weekend. We managed to miss the heights of the crowds, however, and while there were still a good number of tots in attendance, Trey had enough space to thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Trey has reunited with Anna in Nursery 1, and he is loving it. Their romance (or good friendship, at least) continues.

We have continued our playground escapades at the park across the street after work most nights.

Trey enjoyed a visit with Uncle P on Wednesday! Trey, however, happened to pick that day of all days to hardly nap, so he wasn't entirely his playful self that evening. It was a good visit nonetheless -- Trey got to show off his stellar walking skills, and Uncle P read him a story before bed.

We hope to be better about updates this week! As for pictures and videos, I make no promises...

Justice?

We had our first biting experience at school yesterday. Fortunately (I think), Trey was the bitee, not the biter. According to Ms. Terri, Trey was his normal social self at snack time. Instead of sitting in his chair and quietly eating his snack like he is supposed to do, he walked from friend to friend to check out what snacks they were having. One friend had goldfish. Trey decided he wanted goldfish, too! So he reached for the delectable orange cracker. The friend, however, would have none of it, and he (or she) bit Trey's hand in response! By all accounts, Trey was a little stunned and whined a bit, but overall he was relatively unfazed by the episode.

Mommy received a call, of course, from the school regarding the incident. But Mommy and Daddy had the same reaction -- serves him right for stealing food! Perhaps we are a bit insensitive, but these are rules of social conduct we are happy to know he is learning early in life.

Tooth #12!

The fourth of Trey's last round of molars finally broke through a few days ago. Symmetry is complete again!

The past two evenings, we have taken advantage of the longer daylight hours by heading to the park after getting home. Trey has always loved the swing, but now that he is more mobile he also loves crawling around on the other playground equipment. He will scurry up the steps and dive onto the slide head-first. Daddy took a video, and we will post it soon.

New Videos

Daddy has been busy uploading to YouTube! Check out the new videos of Trey on the video bar to the right...

Weaning Pains

Trey and Mommy are weaning... and Trey is having a rough go of it. He is now incredibly clingy with Mommy and fusses whenever she even takes a step away. A bottle of milk is the only thing that will appease him - and it has to be warm milk, in a bottle (not a sippy cup). He is perfectly fine when Mommy isn't in sight, but when she's around and tries to leave, it's like the worst case of separation anxiety. We are hoping it will pass with time, but for now, it isn't very much fun.

New Shoes

Mommy decided Trey needed some new shoes to protect his walking feet! Now that he plays outside almost every day, the pre-walkers he has are getting pretty worn out. So Trey got some snazzy new shoes yesterday - 2 pairs! He is still getting used to the new, thicker soles, but hopefully they'll be better for exploring outdoors. We also learned that Trey has extra-wide feet. Apparently he got this gene from his paternal side -- narrow feet run in Mommy's family, but Daddy also has wide feet!

Gymboree

Trey's friend Andrew invited him to Gymboree yesterday. So he and Anna joined Andrew for a 45-minute session of singing, bouncing, climbing, and playing. Trey had a blast! He loved all of the different areas to explore, especially climbing through tunnels. And, as always, he loved chasing after balls.

Unfortunately, none of the parents brought a camera to capture all of the fun! So you will just have to take our word for it. :)

From ear to eye...

It appears the ear infections have now morphed into eye infections. For the past few days, Trey has been waking up from nights and naps with goup in his eyes. We chalked it up to congestion, which Trey has had for weeks (and that every kid has right now, it seems). But we got worried yesterday when his eyes were baggy and red and he just looked awful. The doctor says not to worry - it's just an infection that is manifesting in the tear ducts. He gave us some eye drops and sent us on our way. Thank heavens for tubes, though, or this surely would have been another ear infection! Trey's ears were clear as day, thankfully.
